2020 Penn Hills Meal Delivery

Beginning on June 29, ACCESS vehicles will deliver food to Penn Hills residents along five bus routes. The stops are strategically placed to ensure residents are able to access the food they need. Communications alerting residents to the bus routes will be conducted through community organizations, municipal channels, and the school district. By launching this model, Penn Hills is leading the way for other communities, as this innovation is now being replicated in additional municipalities with significant need. The United Way’s Students and Families Food Relief Fund has already served over 250,000 meals since the end of March. With this newfound collaboration and innovative delivery model, capacity to feed more families is expected to grow.

Through a collaborative partnership spanning government, nonprofit, and local business, food delivery bus routes have been developed throughout the Penn Hills community to ensure children, families, and seniors can receive meals at convenient locations during this difficult and uncertain time. Partners include the United Way of Southwestern PA, Eat’ n Park, A Second Chance, Inc., Carnegie Mellon University, Allegheny County Department of Human Services, Penn Hills School District, Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank, the Municipality of Penn Hills, Allies for Children, Penn Hills Clergy Association and other community organizations. Generously funded through the United Way’s Students and Families Food Relief Fund, this model has the capacity to serve an additional 1,000 meals per day.
